Heating bearings with the BETEX SLF series

Heating bearings with the BETEX SLF series

Precise bearing heating for the purpose of correct mounting and a heating process which is properly controlled. Things that “simply” have to be in place. The assembly and disassembly of bearings happens daily. The “classic” and still widely used methods such as an oven, heating plate, burner, open fire and oil bath are still applied on a daily basis. Obviously, these are not efficient and certainly not bearing-friendly.

If we take a more critical look at one of those classic methods, in this case open fire, there is a very good chance that the bearing will get too hot. These high temperatures will change the structure of the bearing, or the grease inside the bearing will burn. Damage to the bearing is thus caused before it is even assembled! The solution for this is heating by using the right induction device. This ensures controlled heating to the set temperature that will maintain the condition of the bearings.

Measuring temperature difference

With the BETEX SLF heater (Smart Low Frequency) you can heat bearings very precisely and in a controlled manner. This is because it features a Delta-T (ΔT) function. Thanks to this function, it is possible to use 2 temperature sensors to measure the temperature on the inside and outside of a workpiece. In this way, the maximum set temperature difference between 2 points can never be exceeded. As a result, you achieve even and uniform heating and avoid material stress.

On the job with the SLF

Picture this... A bearing has broken down in a paper mill and needs to be replaced. Using the SLF, you have heated the new bearing to the correct specifications in a controlled manner after which it can be mounted. Later, the customer asks for proof that the bearing was heated correctly. The log function allows you to display a graph showing the temperature build-up. You can always trace how long and to what temperature a (critical) bearing has been heated!

How to export the log data?

To create a log file, simply enter your name and the description of the workpiece. The logged data can then be exported to a USB flash drive with 1 press of the screen after the heating process.
